My name is Sofía, I am a Mexican law student and I am a visiting researcher from June 15th to August 25th, 2017 at Carleton University under the supervision of Professor Martin Geiger.
I am currently studying my Bachelors degree of Law at Universidad de Guadalajara with specialization in Civil Law focused on human rights and this is my senior year! My research interests include human rights, citizenship and free development of migrants through their transition of territory and lifestyle as well as health issues and humanitarian aid, the creation of new public policies and their collaboration with international organizations and civil society.
In addition, I care about displacement, refugees, asylum and the challenge that represents the prejudice and discrimination against migrants related to diverse connotations of nationality, culture, religion or preference in their search for new opportunities. I am also passionate about sustainable development, urban planning and responsible use of natural resources regarding the migration system.
I am really excited about this opportunity and cannot wait to meet you all! This has been a wonderful experience so far and I believe this is just the beginning. I am sure this is going to be an unforgettable experience!
See you soon!
