Krystyna’s research focuses on how the global refugee regime is experienced in the everyday life of asylum-seekers while waiting for their refugee status determination hearing. She is looking at how norms around refugee protection and reception at the global and EU level are implemented at the local level, and how micro-instances of resistance and defiance manifest in opposition to these norms. She conducted two months of primary research in the South of Italy where she interviewed asylum-seekers on their experiences in the community-hosting project for asylum-seekers and refugees in Gioiosa-Ionica.
