Research Area:
RIGHTS, CITIZENSHIP, AND ACTIVISM

The world is continuing its path of rapid globalization and deepening global disparities, forcing even more people to migrate and leave their places of origin. There is a need to adapt and develop policies, programs and practices, taking into account today’s realities of a world of migration and mobility. Activists around the world have formed coalitions that are fighting for a better protection, a safeguarding of rights and the inclusion of migrants and refugees. Gaining permanent residence and citizenship matters to them, but recognition, equal, fair treatment, protection against exploitation, racism and violation of human rights and other rights are of primary value. Human cross-border mobility is closely related to questions of identity. Including, sense of home, the creation of diasporas and new transnational forms of belonging and existence. The goal is to promote the rights of migrants and refugees and prevent exploitative programs and excessive forms of migration control.
